Laser Cut Acrylic Signs With a Polished Edge
We cut ours on our CO2 laser at One Tree Point in Northland, which flame-polishes the edge as it cuts. There are no routing marks to sand out and no cleanup needed afterwards.
Because a laser follows a line rather than a tool path, any shape costs the same as a rectangle. On a clear sign that polished edge catches the light and becomes part of the design, which is exactly why edge-lit signs work so well.
Send us whatever artwork you have. A vector file is ideal, a good image is usually fine, and a photo of an existing sign is a perfectly reasonable starting point. You will get a proof showing the sign at actual size in the actual colours, with the mounting method marked, before anything is cut.
Logo signs, with your logo cut out as a shape in one or more layers, mounted on standoffs or flush to the wall. Cut lettering as individual letters in any font and size, mounted directly or onto a backing panel. Reception and boardroom signs, which are usually layered and often set against a two tone or brushed backing.
Shopfront and window signs that hang, mount to the wall or fix to the glass. Counter and till signs, small and freestanding, which tend to be the ones customers actually read. Layered and dimensional signs using two or three acrylic layers on standoffs to give depth and shadow.
We also make directory and wayfinding panels with changeable inserts for buildings where tenants move, menu boards and holders for hospitality, awards, plaques and desk pieces including reverse engraved and colour filled work, and light boxes and edge-lit signs where engraved acrylic is lit from the edge so the engraving glows.
Clear, frosted, opal, gloss black, matte black, white and a wide range of colours, along with mirrored acrylic in silver and gold, and fluorescent edge-glow acrylic for light boxes.
Two tone acrylic is a coloured surface over a different coloured core which is engraved through, giving a crisp permanent contrast that no printed sign really matches. It comes from the same material family as our industrial labelling, so it is what we reach for when a sign needs to look sharp and survive being cleaned.
3 mm suits most flat signage, while 5 mm and up is better where the edge is part of the look or the sign is large, and layered signs use a mix. For finishing you can have standoffs, flush wall mounts, hanging chain or wire, freestanding feet, adhesive mounting, or drilled to your own fixing centres.
Send whatever you have. A vector file is ideal, a good image is usually fine, and a photo of an existing sign is a perfectly reasonable place to start.
Clean outlines, solid shapes and lettering with reasonable stroke weight all cut beautifully. Very thin strokes and small counters, which are the enclosed spaces in letters like a, e and o, need a little more thought, because at small sizes they can fall out of the cut. We would rather adjust the artwork with you than hand over a sign with the middle missing from every e.

Indoors, acrylic is the right answer nearly every time. It is stable, clean, easy to fix and it looks considered.
Outdoors it lasts well for years, though it does need specifying properly. Colour choice matters because some pigments fade faster in direct sun, and the fixings need to allow for the fact that acrylic expands and contracts more than metal does. A large panel fixed rigidly at every corner in full sun will eventually let you know about it, so we allow for that.
There are places we would use something else and we will say so, including anything taking knocks at ground level, anything that has to be walked on, and anything in an industrial environment where solvents are in daily use. For those, two tone laminate, aluminium or stainless is the better choice.

Send us your logo and a rough idea of the size you are thinking, and we will come back with a proof, a suggestion on materials and a price. Anything needing measuring or fitting we handle in person around Whangarei and Bream Bay, and anything flat and postable we send anywhere in New Zealand.
